Lieven Scheire is a Belgian comedian, physicist and science communicator who brings curiosity, humour and clarity together like no one else. He was born in Wachtebeke, Belgium, in 1981, and briefly swapped Flanders for Iceland as a teenager, where he even picked up the language. In his last year of studying physics at Ghent University, he traded the lab for the stage, launching a TV career with the comedy collective Neveneffecten. Since then, Lieven has become one of the most recognisable faces in the world Belgian media. As a live performer, Lieven brings science to the stage with intelligent comedy shows that sell out theatres across Belgium and the Netherlands. His recent hit Artificial Intelligence mixes razor - sharp humour with deep insight into the rapidly evolving world of AI. The English - language version has already toured internationally — from the Northern Ireland Science Festival to the CERN Comedy Festival and Edinburgh Fringe — and in 2026, he embarks on his first UK tour. Beyond the stage, Lieven is the founder and frontman of Nerdland, a thriving science and technology brand that makes complex ideas accessible and fun. Under the Nerdland banner, he co-hosts one of Belgium’s most popular podcasts (over 300,000 monthly listeners), writes bestselling books on topics from physics to AI, and co-organises the Nerdland Festival — the largest science festival in the Benelux, attracting more than 25,000 visitors each year. Together with Hetty Helsmoortel, he also brings Nerdland for Little Nerds to arenas every autumn, introducing kids to science in an imaginative, family - friendly way.
