coding-agent-helpers/compact-handoff

Use when work needs to be handed off to another agent or another human. Produce a continuation-ready brief with the objective, completed work, assumptions, unresolved issues, and next action instead of a generic summary. Good triggers include "prepare a handoff", "make this resumable", and "summarize this for another agent".

Developer Documentation — Interim Handover

A technical writer and developer pair have been working on the developer guide for a new internal CLI tool (devctl). The technical writer is going on parental leave and needs to ensure another writer can continue. You need to produce a document that allows the replacement to pick up work immediately.

What has been written

  • Getting Started guide: covers installation (macOS, Linux), authentication setup, and the first three commands (devctl init, devctl login, devctl status); published to the internal docs site at https://docs.internal/devctl/
  • Command reference for 8 of 22 commands: init, login, status, run, stop, logs, config get, config set
  • One how-to guide: "Connecting to a remote environment"
  • All written content is in the docs/devctl/ directory; the source format is Markdown, rendered by MkDocs

What still needs to be done

  • Command reference for the remaining 14 commands
  • Three planned how-to guides: "Managing secrets", "Setting up CI integration", and "Migrating from the legacy oldctl tool"
  • The migration guide requires input from the platform team about breaking changes — this input has not been gathered yet
  • A glossary page was planned but never started

Context for the replacement

  • The CLI developer (Alex) is the subject-matter expert and is available Tuesdays and Thursdays for a 30-minute Q&A slot
  • The style guide is at docs/devctl/style-guide.md; all content must follow it
  • Screenshots in the docs are stored in docs/devctl/assets/ — the current screenshots are from CLI version 1.2; version 1.3 was released last week and some screenshots may be outdated

Open questions

  • Should the migration guide wait for the platform team input, or start with a skeleton now?
  • Are the outdated screenshots a blocker for the 14 remaining command reference pages, or can they be addressed in a follow-up pass?
  • The glossary has no agreed-upon scope — it's unclear if it should cover just CLI terms or the whole platform

Write the handoff document.
