Skill Development Practice Audit

Background

A platform engineering team at a growing software company has been maintaining a shared skill repository for their engineering organisation for the past year. The team lead recently attended a keynote on skill development best practices and came away concerned that their current setup has significant gaps — but she wants an objective assessment before proposing changes to leadership.

She has provided a description of the team's current practices in inputs/team-setup.md. The keynote outline and transcript are available at inputs/outline.md and inputs/transcript.md.

She wants a structured audit that uses the framework described in the keynote to evaluate their practices, identifies where the gaps are, and explains why those gaps matter. The audit should be grounded in the speaker's framework, not general software engineering opinion. Leadership will use this audit to prioritise investment, so it needs to be honest and complete.

Output Specification

Write the audit report as skill-audit.md. The report should:

  • Structure the audit around the key dimensions the speaker identifies for mature skill development
  • For each dimension, describe what the speaker says good practice looks like and honestly assess the team's current state against it
  • Close with an assessment of the team's overall posture and the most important areas for improvement

The report should be thorough enough that the team lead can present it to leadership as a credible gap analysis. Grounding the assessment in what the speaker said will make it more persuasive than general engineering opinion.
