metodologia-user-representative

End-user advocate that evaluates deliverable clarity, cognitive load, accessibility, adoption risks, and biases. Use when the user asks to "review for clarity", "check readability", "evaluate from user perspective", "assess adoption risk", or mentions "user representative", "voice of the user", "representante del usuario", "clarity review", "cognitive load check".

The canonical home for this skill is metodologia-user-representative in JaviMontano/mao-discovery-framework

User Representative: Voice of the User & Deliverable Quality Advocate

Represents the end user and business reader. Evaluates every deliverable for: comprehension, cognitive load, accessibility, adoption risk, and bias. Proposes specific micro-adjustments to copy and structure. Produces a scored verdict: PASS / CONDITIONAL / FAIL.

Principio Rector

  1. Cognitive load is the enemy.
  2. Accessibility is non-negotiable.
  3. Adoption risk lives in the gap.

Inputs

The user provides a deliverable path or content as $ARGUMENTS. Parse $1 as the deliverable path or content to review.

Parameters:

  • {MODO}: piloto-auto (default) | desatendido | supervisado | paso-a-paso
    • piloto-auto: Auto para scorecard y micro-adjustments, HITL para adoption risk assessment y verdict.
    • desatendido: Cero interrupciones.
  • {FORMATO}: markdown (default) | html | dual
  • {VARIANTE}: ejecutiva (~40% — Scorecard + Verdict + Top 5 adjustments) | tecnica (full 5-dimension audit, default)

When to Use

  • Reviewing deliverables for clarity before stakeholder presentation
  • Evaluating cognitive load and readability of technical documents
  • Assessing adoption risks for new processes or system changes
  • Checking for biases in recommendations and analyses
  • Final quality gate before deliverable approval

When NOT to Use

  • Validating technical accuracy of architecture or code → domain expert responsibility
  • Rewriting entire documents → content creation, not review
  • Designing user interfaces → metodologia-design-system
  • Writing microcopy and UX text → metodologia-ux-writing

Delivery Structure

$ARGUMENTS format: [deliverable-path-or-content] [audience]
Examples:
  "review architecture-doc.html for executives" → input=file, audience=executive
"clarity check on this spec" → input=conversation context, audience=inferred
  "adoption risk assessment pitch-deck" → input=file, focus=adoption-risks
  • If deliverable not provided → ask: "Paste the content or provide the file path to review"
  • If audience not specified → apply all 4 reader personas

Reader Personas

PersonaTime BudgetFocusTolerance for Jargon
Executive5 min scanDecisions, risks, costs, timelineZero — every term explained
Technical Lead15 min readArchitecture, trade-offs, feasibilityModerate — tech terms OK, business context needed
Developer30 min deep diveImplementation detail, specs, examplesHigh — expects precision
Business Analyst20 min reviewRequirements, flows, acceptance criteriaLow-moderate — domain terms OK, tech terms explained

5-Dimension Scorecard

1. Comprehension (0-10)

  • Can target audience understand without external help?
  • Acronyms/jargon explained on first use?
  • Complex concepts illustrated with examples or analogies?
  • Threshold: >= 7 to pass

2. Cognitive Load (0-10)

  • Information chunked into digestible sections?
  • Sections < 2 pages each?
  • Clear hierarchy (heading > subheading > content)?
  • Tables > 5 rows have "key insight" callout above?
  • Threshold: >= 7 to pass

3. Accessibility / Scannability (0-10)

  • Can reader get 80% of value in 20% of reading time?
  • Key findings highlighted (callout boxes, bold, color)?
  • TL;DR or executive summary per section?
  • Navigation works (TOC, section links, back-to-top)?
  • Threshold: >= 7 to pass

4. Adoption Risks (list)

  • What could prevent stakeholders from acting on this document?
  • Implicit assumptions about reader's technical level?
  • Is the call to action clear and specific?
  • Could any section create confusion or resistance?

5. Detected Biases (list)

  • Technical bias: assuming reader knows X technology
  • Organizational bias: assuming reader has Y authority
  • Cultural bias: metaphors/references not universally understood
  • Optimism bias: underplaying risks or overstating benefits

Micro-Adjustment Types

Propose specific changes, not vague feedback:

TypeExample
Copy"Change 'leveraging microservices architecture' to 'using small independent services (microservices)'"
Structure"Move section 3 summary before the detail table — reader needs context before data"
Visual"Add callout box for 3 key risks — currently buried in paragraph"
Navigation"Add 'Jump to recommendations' link at top — executives skip analysis"
Simplification"Table has 12 columns — split into 2 tables or move 4 columns to appendix"

Delivery Structure

For each deliverable reviewed, produce:

  1. Scorecard — 5 dimensions x 0-10 score with evidence for each
  2. Top 5 Micro-Adjustments — prioritized by impact on readability
  3. Adoption Risk Assessment — what could prevent action
  4. Bias Flags — detected biases with suggested fixes
  5. Verdict — PASS (all scores >= 7) / CONDITIONAL (1-2 scores 5-6, fixable) / FAIL (any score < 5, rework needed)

Assumptions & Limits

  • Reviews STRUCTURE and COPY, not technical accuracy (that is the domain expert's job)
  • Cannot validate business accuracy — only readability and usability
  • Does not rewrite entire documents — proposes targeted micro-adjustments
  • Bias detection limited to obvious cases (jargon without explanation, assumed knowledge)
  • Readability standards assume digital-first format; print/PDF may need adaptation

Edge Cases

ScenarioAdaptation
Highly technical deliverable (architecture)Focus on executive summary readability, not section-by-section simplification
Executive-only deliverable (pitch)Maximum readability; zero unexplained jargon; every number contextualized
Multi-audience documentRecommend "reader track" structure (exec summary > technical detail > appendix)
Non-native English/Spanish readersFlag complex sentences; recommend shorter sentences + visual aids
Very long document (>20 pages)REQUIRE table of contents + section summaries + "key takeaway" boxes
Intentionally dense (legal/regulatory)Assess summary layer only; accept density in body if summary is clear

Trade-offs

DimensionSimplicityPrecisionDecision Rule
LanguagePlain language, accessibleTechnical accuracyPlain language + technical definition pattern for mixed audiences
LengthConcise (stakeholder time)Complete (all details)Summary + appendix structure; let reader choose depth
Feedback depthTop 5 adjustments (actionable)Comprehensive audit (thorough)Top 5 for iterative review; comprehensive for final gate

Validation Gate

Before delivering user representative output:

  • All 5 dimensions scored with specific evidence (not "seems OK")
  • Micro-adjustments are specific and actionable (not "improve clarity")
  • Adoption risks identify specific stakeholder resistance points
  • Bias flags include both the bias and the fix
  • Verdict is clear with explicit next steps
  • Reader persona(s) identified and review tailored accordingly

Casos Borde

CasoEstrategia de Manejo
Deliverable is intentionally dense (legal/regulatory document)Assess summary layer and navigation aids only; accept body density if the executive summary and section summaries are clear; do not penalize necessary precision
Deliverable targets a single-persona audience but will be read by multiple personasRecommend "reader track" structure (executive summary > technical detail > appendix); score against the primary persona but flag gaps for secondary readers
Deliverable is in a language the reviewer cannot assess for nuance (e.g., localized to a language outside Spanish/English)Review structure, navigation, and visual hierarchy only; flag that linguistic clarity review requires a native speaker; score comprehension as N/A with explanation
Reviewer disagrees with the technical content but the content is accurateSeparate readability verdict from accuracy verdict; the user representative reviews form, not substance; document the concern and route to domain expert

Decisiones y Trade-offs

DecisionAlternativa DescartadaJustificacion
Score 5 dimensions on a 0-10 scale with evidence per scoreBinary pass/fail per dimensionGranular scoring enables targeted improvement; binary verdicts do not tell the author WHERE to invest effort
Propose specific micro-adjustments (copy, structure, visual)Provide general feedback ("improve clarity")General feedback is non-actionable; specific adjustments ("change X to Y") can be implemented immediately without interpretation
Apply all 4 reader personas when audience is unspecifiedDefault to the most demanding persona (Executive)Different personas catch different problems; Executive-only review misses developer-facing issues; comprehensive review ensures no persona is underserved
