choosing-trend-or-slope-view

Clarify how to visualize change over a time range before building a trend. Use whenever the user asks how much something changed, grew, dropped, improved, or regressed between two points or periods — "how much did X change from A to B", "before vs after", "start vs end", "week over week", "compare this month to last", "change over time" — or mentions a "slope chart" / "slopegraph". Two readings of "change" need different charts: the whole trend (a line, every interval) versus just the two endpoints (a slope, start vs end). Ask which they want, then render it. Not for choosing a saved insight ChartDisplayType in the insight editor.

Reviews the quality of instructions and guidance provided to agents. Good implementation is clear, handles edge cases, and produces reliable results.

Well-structured, actionable guidance that clarifies an ambiguity and renders both chart types with a concrete JSON example and UI-toggle steps. Minor conciseness trims and a slightly less code-complete slope branch keep actionability and conciseness at 4.

Suggestions

Tighten explanatory phrases ('This is the default trend', 'without the noise of the path between') to lift conciseness toward 5.

Add a minimal executable snippet or field-level example for the slope branch (e.g. the trendsFilter display value) to make both render paths equally copy-paste ready.

DimensionReasoningScore

Conciseness

Mostly lean and efficient, focused on PostHog-specific details Claude would not know (TrendsQuery, ActionsLineGraph, compareFilter); a few phrases like 'This is the default trend' and 'without the noise of the path between' could be trimmed without losing clarity.

4 / 5

Actionability

Provides a complete, executable TrendsQuery JSON for the line case and concrete steps for the slope case (run posthog:query-trends, toggle Line/Bar/Slope); the slope branch is instruction-based rather than copy-paste code, which is inherent to a UI toggle but leaves a minor gap.

4 / 5

Workflow Clarity

Clear decision sequence — clarify which chart the user wants, then render — with an explicit clarify-before-build checkpoint and guidance on when to skip the question; no post-render verification step, but the operation is non-destructive so the validation cap does not apply.

4 / 5

Progressive Disclosure

A self-contained skill with no bundle files; the body is well-organized into clear sections (problem, when to ask, how to render each, limits) with no nested or buried references, appropriate for a single-purpose skill of this size.

Description

95%Weight 40%Scale 1-5

Based on the skill's description, can an agent find and select it at the right time? Clear, specific descriptions lead to better discovery.

A strong, third-person description with comprehensive natural trigger phrases and an explicit what/when structure plus a negative boundary. Slightly narrow on the breadth of concrete actions, which keeps specificity at 4 rather than 5.

DimensionReasoningScore

Specificity

Names concrete actions — 'Clarify how to visualize change over a time range before building a trend', 'Ask which they want, then render it' — and distinguishes line vs slope rendering, though the action set is narrow (clarify + two render modes) rather than a broad comprehensive list.

4 / 5

Completeness

Explicitly answers both what (clarify and render a line or slope view of change over a range) and when ('Use whenever the user asks how much something changed...') with concrete trigger phrases, plus a negative boundary.

5 / 5

Trigger Term Quality

Comprehensive natural trigger phrases including synonyms — 'how much did X change from A to B', 'before vs after', 'start vs end', 'week over week', 'compare this month to last', 'change over time', 'slope chart' / 'slopegraph' — exactly what a user would say.

5 / 5

Distinctiveness Conflict Risk

Clear niche (trend line vs slope view) with distinct triggers and an explicit exclusion — 'Not for choosing a saved insight ChartDisplayType in the insight editor' — minimizing conflict with adjacent skills.
