antithesis-setup-k8s

Scaffold the Antithesis harness for customers running Kubernetes: Convert helm charts, kustomize templates, or raw Kubernetes manifests into a minimized set of manifests for Antithesis. Verify the Kubernetes manifests are in the correct shape with snouty validate and a local cluster deploy. Hands it off to antithesis-launch if the user wants to submit a run. At the end, the user is ready to run antithesis-workload to build tests. If the desired setup is docker-compose, defer to the antithesis-setup skill.

Reviews the quality of instructions and guidance provided to agents. Good implementation is clear, handles edge cases, and produces reliable results.

A well-orchestrated multi-stage skill: the body is a lean overview that sequences a clearly-labeled pipeline of one-level-deep reference files, with explicit validation stages, feedback loops for revisiting earlier passes, and safety rules around live cluster operations. The only notable weakness is mild redundancy in the go-back-and-redo guidance and a few stage summaries that lean on the reference files for specifics.

DimensionReasoningScore

Conciseness

The body is mostly lean — prerequisites, pipeline, and glossary are all actionable specifics with no explanation of concepts Claude already knows. Not 5: there is duplicated guidance ('check whether what you learned invalidates any decisions from earlier steps... return to that step and redo it' is restated as 'These stages... are NOT one-way gates. If any parts reveal a classification decision earlier was wrong, go back and re-run'), and a few padded sentences ('Keep these findings in case analysis is required of what changed...') that could be trimmed.

4 / 5

Actionability

Concrete guidance throughout: named reference files in execution order, exact paths ('antithesis/config/manifests/', 'antithesis/scratchbook/k8s-minimization/working.md'), and runnable commands ('snouty --version', 'snouty update', 'snouty validate --help'). Not 5: a few stage descriptions stay high-level ('attempts to figure out which parts of the system are necessary to test') and rely on the reference files for the specifics, leaving minor gaps in the body itself.

4 / 5

Workflow Clarity

Clear ordered pipeline of 8 stages with explicit validation checkpoints (dedicated 'snouty validate' static-analysis and local k3s deploy stages), an explicit feedback loop for error recovery ('NOT one-way gates... go back and re-run the affected earlier pass and update working.md'), and skip-handling rules ('make sure to record that the step is skipped and continue... Do not exit early'). Destructive cluster operations are guarded: 'Ask the user before running any of these commands' and 'clean up all resources it creates before exiting'. This matches the top anchor including feedback loops and checklist-style sequencing.

5 / 5

Progressive Disclosure

SKILL.md is a concise overview that appropriately delegates detail to 10 verified, one-level-deep reference files (all present in references/ and spot-checked to contain real content, not stub chains), each clearly signaled with its purpose ('landmines.md: identifies classes of manifests that are detrimental...'). Bulk material (e.g., the 16KB landmines.md and operator recipes) is correctly kept out of the body, and navigation via the pipeline list plus reference catalogs is easy.

Description

75%Weight 40%Scale 1-5

Based on the skill's description, can an agent find and select it at the right time? Clear, specific descriptions lead to better discovery.

A specific, well-differentiated description that names concrete actions and clearly delineates its Kubernetes niche from sibling Antithesis skills. Its main weakness is the absence of an explicit 'Use when...' trigger clause, leaving the activation conditions only weakly implied and capping completeness. Adding natural trigger phrases including 'k8s' would strengthen it further.

Suggestions

Add an explicit trigger clause such as 'Use when the user wants to set up Antithesis for a Kubernetes-based system using helm charts, kustomize, or raw manifests' to satisfy the when-half of completeness.

Include the common abbreviation 'k8s' (already used in the skill name) and variants like 'k8s manifests' alongside 'Kubernetes' to broaden natural trigger coverage.

Lead with the 'when' condition before the action list so the triggering context (Antithesis + Kubernetes setup) is the first thing evaluated for skill matching.

DimensionReasoningScore

Specificity

Multiple concrete actions are listed with comprehensive coverage of the workflow: 'Convert helm charts, kustomize templates, or raw Kubernetes manifests into a minimized set of manifests', 'Verify... with snouty validate and a local cluster deploy', 'Hands it off to antithesis-launch', and readying the user 'to run antithesis-workload to build tests'. Not 4: there are no meaningful coverage gaps — convert, verify, launch handoff, and next-step readiness cover the skill end to end.

5 / 5

Completeness

The 'what' is clear (scaffold, convert, verify), but there is no explicit 'Use when...' clause and the 'when' is only weakly implied via 'for customers running Kubernetes' and the docker-compose deferral sentence. Per judging guidelines, a missing 'Use when...' clause or equivalent explicit trigger guidance caps completeness at 3.

3 / 5

Trigger Term Quality

Good keyword coverage of natural terms users would say: 'Kubernetes', 'helm charts', 'kustomize', 'manifests', 'docker-compose', 'snouty validate'. Not 5: common variations are missing — the abbreviation 'k8s' (used in the skill name and body but absent from the description) and related phrasings like 'k8s manifests' or 'helm templating'.

4 / 5

Distinctiveness Conflict Risk

Clear niche (Antithesis harness scaffolding for Kubernetes) with explicit boundary disambiguation: 'If the desired setup is docker-compose, defer to the antithesis-setup skill', plus clear handoff boundaries to antithesis-launch and antithesis-workload. Minimal conflict risk; not 4 since it actively distinguishes itself from its closest sibling skills.
