Standard Vocabulary

Use standard abbreviations when useful:

  • ECU: extreme close-up
  • CU: close-up
  • MCU: medium close-up
  • MS: medium shot
  • MFS / MW: medium full / medium wide
  • FS: full shot
  • WS / LS: wide / long shot
  • EWS: extreme wide shot

Selection Rules

  • ECU/CU for micro-expression, object significance, realization, fear, obsession.
  • MCU/MS for dialogue readability and neutral dramatic exchange.
  • FS/WS for body behavior, blocking, environment relation, threat scale.
  • EWS for spectacle, isolation, geography, or scale reset.

Angle Rules

  • low angle: power, myth, threat, grandeur
  • high angle: vulnerability, surveillance, exposure
  • eye level: neutrality, realism, plain confrontation
  • overhead: pattern, helplessness, tactical relation
  • canted: instability or rupture

Coverage Rules

  • Change shot size to change information priority.
