citation-crosscheck

Conditionally double-blind bibliographic cross-check (double-blind only when the host can isolate the web agent; a flag-only heuristic when isolation can't be attested): one agent extracts each cited entry verbatim from the local .bib, a second independently re-fetches the same paper's record from the web while blind to the .bib, and a third extractor emits a mechanical field-by-field delta to catch dropped/re-ordered authors, wrong years, wrong venues, and bad DOIs/arXiv ids. The main agent (never a shard) assigns the MATCH/MINOR/MISMATCH verdict per reference, and exports a side-by-side spreadsheet. Use when user says "citation crosscheck", "double-blind citation check", "verify bib against scholar", "bib field audit", "引用交叉核对", or before submission when bibliography FIELD accuracy (not just existence) must be certified.

Reviews the quality of instructions and guidance provided to agents. Good implementation is clear, handles edge cases, and produces reliable results.

A workflow of exceptional rigor and executability — deterministic scripts, fail-closed joins, a mandatory verifier gate, and an explicit verdict ladder leave almost nothing ambiguous. Its weakness is redundancy: the conditional-blindness rule and the no-jury design rationale are repeated many times across sections, and the 546-line body inlines a large Python harvester that belongs in scripts/, inflating the context cost without adding guidance value.

Suggestions

State the conditional-blindness rule once (e.g. in the Constants section) and reference it elsewhere in one line ('see BLIND, above') — the ~10 restatements across the mirror-adaptation note, Step 2, Step 3.5, and Key rules are the body's largest token waste.

Move the Step-1 Python cite-harvester into scripts/ (like cx_verify.py) and invoke it with a one-line command plus a short comment on its SKIP/VERB/NOCITE_ALL edge cases; the inline ~100-line regex block is the clearest in-bundle content that belongs in a separate file.

Compress the repeated fan-out/acceptance-gate justification prose (the 'Requirement (4)' argument appears in both Step 2 and Step 3.5) into one normative note, keeping the citation-audit comparison table as the sole differentiation.

DimensionReasoningScore

Conciseness

The body is noticeably verbose with several padded sections: the conditional-blindness rule is restated at least ten times (title, the normative mirror-adaptation blockquote, the 🔒 note, 'Why this exists', the comparison table, the BLIND constant, the Step-2 dispatch paragraph, the Step-2 blind-attestation bullet, the Step-3.5 ESCALATE bullet, and Key rules), each with overlapping wording; 'Requirement (4) is discharged by the deterministic branch' is also argued twice. This matches the 2 anchor ('noticeably verbose; several unnecessary explanations or padded sections') — the 3 anchor's 'some unnecessary explanation' understates the redundancy, though the code blocks themselves are dense and load-bearing rather than padded.

2 / 5

Actionability

Fully executable, copy-paste-ready guidance throughout: the complete Python cite-harvester heredoc in Step 1, the .bbl key-set diff commands, the full cx_verify.py resolver chain with an explicit failure message, the exact JSON envelopes for shards A/B/C (e.g. '{"shard_id":"B","blind","entries":[...]}'), the exhaustive Step-4 verdict decision ladder, and the enumerated .xlsx columns. This matches the 5 anchor ('fully executable; copy-paste ready code or commands; specific examples cover the common cases'); it is well above the 4 anchor's 'minor gaps'.

5 / 5

Workflow Clarity

Steps 1–5 are clearly sequenced with explicit validation checkpoints and feedback loops throughout this batch, .bib-editing workflow: the .bbl key-set cross-check ('any output ⇒ investigate'), the fail-closed dedup_key join ('re-run the offending shard'), the mandatory 'cx_verify.py --selftest || exit 1' plus --expect/--expect-keys/--expect-manifest coverage checks, the gate's fail-closed ESCALATE semantics, the Step-4 no-fetch-no-finding ladder, and post-fix 're-verify the page count is unchanged'. This matches the 5 anchor ('clear sequence with explicit validation steps; feedback loops for error recovery; checklists for complex processes') — no validation gaps for the destructive .bib-edit path.

5 / 5

Progressive Disclosure

Section structure is clear and references are one level deep and well signaled ([../shared-references/fan-out-pattern.md], [../shared-references/acceptance-gate.md], scripts/cx_verify.py — which exists as a real 1572-line script in the bundle). But the 546-line SKILL.md inlines roughly 100 lines of Python harvester in Step 1 (plus the long resolver chain) that clearly belongs in the existing scripts/ directory, and the normative cross-skill prose (fan-out/acceptance-gate requirements) is argued inline rather than summarized. This sits between the 3 anchor ('some structure but could be better organized; content that should be separate is inline') and the 4 anchor ('most content is appropriately placed') — the shared-references are external to this bundle, but the inline harvester is an in-bundle split opportunity, so it leans 3.

Description

92%Weight 40%Scale 1-5

Based on the skill's description, can an agent find and select it at the right time? Clear, specific descriptions lead to better discovery.

An excellent description: concrete, comprehensive, third-person, with an explicit 'Use when user says…' trigger clause including a non-English synonym. The only weakness is mild — a handful of natural trigger phrasings (e.g. 'check my references', 'verify citations') are missing, and the long conditional-blindness parenthetical front-loads implementation nuance that could be trimmed.

Suggestions

Trim the 'double-blind only when the host can isolate the web agent; a flag-only heuristic when isolation can't be attested' parenthetical to a short qualifier — the host-isolation nuance belongs in the body, not the trigger description.

Add one or two more natural user phrasings to the trigger list, e.g. 'check my references' or 'audit the bibliography', to broaden trigger coverage.

DimensionReasoningScore

Specificity

The description lists multiple specific concrete actions with comprehensive coverage: 'one agent extracts each cited entry verbatim from the local .bib', 'a second independently re-fetches the same paper's record from the web', 'a third extractor emits a mechanical field-by-field delta to catch dropped/re-ordered authors, wrong years, wrong venues, and bad DOIs/arXiv ids', 'assigns the MATCH/MINOR/MISMATCH verdict per reference, and exports a side-by-side spreadsheet'. Every clause names a concrete capability (including the conditional double-blind behavior); it matches the anchor 'lists multiple specific concrete actions; comprehensive coverage'. It cannot be the level below (4) because coverage has no gaps — even the failure modes caught are enumerated.

5 / 5

Completeness

It explicitly answers both questions: 'what' is given by the enumerated agent roles and outputs (extraction, blind web re-fetch, field delta, verdicts, spreadsheet), and 'when' by the explicit clause 'Use when user says "citation crosscheck", ... or before submission when bibliography FIELD accuracy (not just existence) must be certified.' This matches the 5 anchor ('clearly and explicitly answers both what AND when with concrete trigger phrases'); the 4 anchor's 'when could be more explicit' does not apply — the when-clause lists concrete trigger phrases verbatim.

5 / 5

Trigger Term Quality

Good keyword coverage with natural phrases users would say: "citation crosscheck", "double-blind citation check", "verify bib against scholar", "bib field audit", "引用交叉核对", plus the scenario 'before submission when bibliography FIELD accuracy... must be certified'. It sits between the 4 anchor ('good keyword coverage; a few natural terms missing') and the 5 anchor: common variations like 'check my references', 'verify citations', or 'audit the bibliography' are absent, and no file-extension trigger (.bib as a trigger term) is offered, so it does not reach comprehensive.

4 / 5

Distinctiveness Conflict Risk

It carves a clear niche — bibliographic FIELD-level accuracy ('not just existence'), explicitly scoped away from context-fit — with distinct trigger phrases ('bib field audit', 'double-blind citation check') that no generic citation or document skill would claim. This matches the 5 anchor 'clear niche with distinct triggers; minimal conflict risk'; it is far more specific than the 4 anchor's 'minor overlap risk with closely related skills'.
