Counter-Intelligence Rumor Campaign

Based on Qin's strategy at Changping to replace Lian Po with Zhao Kuo.

Overview

Spread rumors through enemy channels to influence their command decisions.

Steps

  1. Identify Target

    • Find capable enemy commander (e.g., Lian Po who used defensive tactics)
    • Identify their less capable replacement (e.g., Zhao Kuo, theoretical but inexperienced)
  2. Plant Disinformation

    • Spread word that you fear only the replacement
    • Claim the current commander is easy to defeat
    • Suggest the current commander is about to surrender
  3. Exploit Enemy Weaknesses

    • Target enemy ruler's impatience with defensive tactics
    • Use their frustration with lack of progress
    • Capitalize on existing discontent
  4. Timing

    • Launch campaign when enemy has suffered setbacks
    • Ensure rumors reach decision-makers directly

Expected Outcomes

  • Enemy replaces competent commander with inferior one
  • Enemy adopts aggressive tactics that favor your strategy
  • Victory becomes significantly easier

Validation

  1. Confirm rumors have reached the enemy ruler through multiple channels — single-source disinformation is easily dismissed
  2. Verify the replacement commander actually adopts the aggressive tactics you anticipated (e.g., Zhao Kuo abandoning Lian Po's defensive strategy)
  3. Assess timing: launch the campaign when the enemy has already suffered setbacks and the ruler's frustration with defensive tactics is at peak
