Overview

When facing an enemy with superior combat capability, avoid direct engagement. Instead, fortify defensive positions, let the enemy exhaust themselves, and cut off their supply lines.

Steps

1. Assess enemy strength

   • Evaluate if enemy forces are more mobile and aggressive
   • Determine if direct confrontation would be disadvantageous

2. Establish fortified defensive position

   • Choose strategic location with natural defenses
   • Build deep fortifications (深壁)
   • Prepare for extended siege defense

3. Refuse direct engagement

   • Do not respond to enemy challenges or provocations
   • Maintain defensive posture regardless of pressure
   • Allow allies to bear the brunt of enemy attacks if strategically beneficial

4. Cut off enemy supply lines

   • Send light cavalry to intercept enemy supply routes
   • Target food and resource transport
   • Prevent resupply over extended period

5. Wait for enemy exhaustion

   • Monitor enemy morale and provisions
   • Allow hunger and desperation to weaken enemy

6. Launch counterattack when enemy retreats

   • Enemy will eventually be forced to retreat due to supply shortage
   • Pursue with elite forces during retreat
   • Achieve decisive victory against weakened opponent

• If ordered to rescue allies but rescue would compromise strategy, maintain position
• If enemy attempts feints or deceptive movements, verify before responding
