Exemplary Models

Zhong Zong of Yin

• Strict, respectful, and reverent toward Heaven's mandate
• Self-regulated in governing the people
• Trembling with fear, never idle or at ease
• Result: Reigned 75 years

Gao Zong

• Long labored outside the court
• Associated with common people
• Upon taking throne, observed mourning silence for three years
• Never idle or at ease
• Quietly maintained peace in Yin
• No grievances from great or small
• Result: Reigned 55 years

Zu Jia

• Did not unjustly claim the throne
• Long lived among common people outside
• Understood the people's needs
• Protected and showed kindness to common people
• Did not insult widows and widowers
• Result: Reigned 33 years

Warning Example

King Zhou of Yin

• Excessively indulged in pleasure
• Did not care about Heaven or the people
• The people all deserved execution

Positive Example

King Wen

• Did not have leisure to eat even at midday
• Result: Reigned 50 years

Expected Outcomes

• Long and stable reign
• Content populace
• Preserved ancestral legacy

Verification

1. Confirm that the ruler's daily practices align with the exemplary models (humility, diligence, reverence) rather than the warning example (indulgence, neglect).
2. Check whether policies reflect concern for both Heaven's mandate and the people's welfare.
