Special cases

Use this reference when the image represents a multipack, variety pack, swatch, packaging-dependent product, device screen, or used/collectible offer.

Multipacks and sets

The image, title, and delivered quantity must agree.

  • Show the total delivered contents in the manner required for the category.
  • Use packaging when it is necessary to establish the pack or set being sold.
  • Avoid a single-unit image for a multipack unless the active Amazon workflow explicitly supplies a platform quantity treatment and the listing remains unambiguous.
  • Do not add Amazon-style quantity stickers or badges to the image.

For a variety pack, show enough product or package detail to explain the assortment without forcing the customer to infer conflicting quantities.

Packaging

Packaging belongs in an image when it is part of what the customer evaluates or is needed to show delivered contents. Remove it from a main image when it merely obscures the product or the category requires the item outside its package.

Verify category rules rather than applying either treatment universally.

Swatches

Swatches identify a variation such as color or pattern. They must correspond to the actual child variation and should not contain price, promotion, seller, or unrelated text. Confirm the image role and child-SKU mapping before evaluating a swatch.

Device screens

Screen content may illustrate realistic use when it does not alter the physical product, obscure controls or bezels, or imply unsupported functionality. Distinguish a factual interface demonstration from an added marketing claim.

Used and collectible offer photos

An offer photo documents the condition of a specific seller-owned item; it is not the generic product-detail image. It may need to show wear, damage, packaging, or included accessories that distinguish that offer.

Offer-photo requirements vary by category and workflow. The archived source behind this package described JPEG/GIF delivery, a 10 MB limit, minimum dimensions near 200 px, and different maximum dimensions for single-item and Book Loader workflows. Verify those limits in the current workflow before using them as acceptance criteria.

Regardless of transport, an offer photo should be focused, well lit, realistic, relevant to the offered item, and free of unrelated text, graphics, or offensive content.

Decision checks

Before applying a special-case rule, confirm:

  • whether the image belongs to the product detail page or a specific offer;
  • whether quantity is identical-item, variety, bundle, or set;
  • whether packaging is included and materially informative;
  • whether the image maps to a parent or child variation; and
  • which marketplace and upload workflow supplies the image.
