Fashion and beauty guidance

Use this reference for apparel, footwear, accessories, intimate apparel, swimwear, children’s garments, and beauty imagery.

Source status

This package previously distributed four overlapping fashion references. Much of their production detail came from an archived Amazon Fashion seller imaging guide from Spring 2021. That material is retained here as dated production guidance, not as proof of a current universal requirement.

Before applying a model, pose, framing, image-count, file-code, or category exception, confirm the current marketplace and product-type rule. General requirements in policy and technical requirements remain the baseline.

Stable review questions

For every fashion image, verify:

  • the image matches the sold color, pattern, size representation, quantity, and garment type;
  • the complete product is visible and is the visual focus;
  • styling items do not appear included unless they are included;
  • product tags, packaging, mannequins, hangers, or supports are permitted for that role and category;
  • the presentation is non-sexualized, age-appropriate, and free of prohibited exposure;
  • each child variation has the imagery required by the active workflow; and
  • alternate images remain consistent with the main image and actual product.

Models, mannequins, and laydowns

Model requirements vary by product category, audience, marketplace, and image role. Do not infer a universal “adult on-model” or “all apparel off-model” rule.

  • Apply the current category rule for live models.
  • Children’s and baby undergarments, swimwear, leotards, and similar form-fitting products require especially strict treatment; use current category guidance and default to an off-model presentation when live-model eligibility is not established.
  • Visible mannequins, hangers, and supports commonly fail main-image requirements.
  • A ghost or invisible-mannequin composite is not universally classifiable from the term alone. Verify the active category rule and inspect whether the product is complete, unobscured, accurately shaped, and free of visible support artifacts.
  • When a live model is allowed, use non-suggestive posing and keep the garment clearly visible.

Footwear

Footwear orientation and pair/single-shoe presentation can be category-specific. The archived guidance behind this package used a single shoe facing left at roughly 45 degrees as a common main-image treatment. Treat that as a production starting point unless the current marketplace/category requirement confirms it as mandatory.

Intimate apparel and swimwear

  • Use non-explicit, non-suggestive presentation.
  • Do not use graphic bars or overlays to conceal prohibited exposure.
  • Do not digitally alter exposed skin to evade a content rule.
  • Confirm current rules for live models, front/back views, and coverage before production.
  • Keep children’s and baby form-fitting products off-model unless current authoritative guidance explicitly says otherwise.

Variations and swatches

Verify parent and child requirements in the active listing workflow. Each color or pattern should be represented accurately. A group image showing multiple variations can supplement, but should not silently replace required child imagery.

Dated production guidance from Spring 2021

Use these as optional shot-planning ideas where they remain compatible with current policy:

  • front, back, detail, styled, and off-model views;
  • full-length framing for long garments, upper-body framing for tops, and waist-down framing for bottoms;
  • flat or laydown treatment for children’s items, accessories, multipacks, and sets;
  • controlled white-background lighting, gray-card capture, and restrained retouching;
  • hair and styling choices that keep the product visible; and
  • diverse, authentic model representation.

Archived camera settings, minimum fashion dimensions, image counts, file codes, face crops, and pose prescriptions are production history—not current acceptance criteria—unless the active Seller Central workflow confirms them.

Beauty imagery

Beauty color and skin-tone representation must remain faithful to the actual product. Amazon-managed imagery may appear independently of seller-contributed assets. Treat slot placement, program eligibility, cost, and editability as live-platform facts to verify rather than permanent rules.
